How Spicy Is Too Spicy? My Vindaloo Experience in London

How Spicy Is Too Spicy? My Vindaloo Experience in London

Personally, I love spicy food, so I am always adding something with spice to my own plate. Over the years, I have tried quite a bit of good-quality Indian and Thai food. Both cuisines can be pretty spicy, but I want to share one particular experience I had in London, UK. Actually, it happened twice!

There is a dish called Vindaloo, a super-hot but popular Indian curry dish that originated in Goa and has Portuguese influences. It can be made with chicken, lamb or even beef, but I love the lamb version.

I have also eaten this dish in the Netherlands, but in London it was so hot that I needed a sip of ice-cold cider after every bite.

I am not joking. I could feel the sweat running down from my neck to my lower back, even when mixing the Vindaloo with rice and drinking cider in between.

When I felt like eating spicy food again, I decided to go back to the same restaurant and order the same dish. But over my many visits, I learned something: order a Mango Lassi!

Mango Lassi is a sweet, creamy, yogurt-based drink that really helps to balance the heat of Vindaloo.

Next time you visit an Indian restaurant and order some spicy food, give it a try and see how you like it. For me, every visit to an Indian restaurant now comes with a standard order of Mango Lassi. Sometimes even two, because I love it so much!
